The essence of life is, for those who
can dream of climbing up the peak of their inner
mountains. Those who minimizes their ties with livelihood
possessions, those who rich to their souls with little,
and those who fill their minds, can reach to the peak of
their inner mountains. That is the place of beauty, love
and freedom; where you are able to feel the warmth of
sunrise on the edge of a cliff, where you become a wave in
the ocean, where you can travel like the notes of music,
where you can be a blowing wind in dessert. Peak of life
is for those who go beyond of "who they are", "where they
are", "what they have". Life is for those who can become a
beautiful song in the complete silence...Life is
beautiful. My painting come from life itself !...

"DREAMS"

I met a man years ago, whose all dreams
have come true in his early ages. I pitted that man, I
thought "he is going to be a dad man from now on". Dreams
are like the clouds in the sky, they are far, they are
changeable, they are remote, they play games with us, they
trick us. It is beautiful to have them, to look at them,
to watch them, and to feel as if we can reach them. They
are like clouds, they smile at us, they get angry at us,
they cry and they walk away from us. It is beautiful to
lie down and watch their motions. But like the dreams they
can never be handled, or touched, they can hold us and
take us to the infinity. Dreams are the essence of our
lives, they are our energy source, and the evolution of
our lives. When we reach them they turn into other
directions and other forms, like magic, they are always
motivating us. They are not catchable. We are the dreams'
followers, we must be dream addicts, and running after our
dreams. The secret and the beauty of life, lies in the
journey of running for our dreams or holding to our
dreams....

rhythm, love is honor, love is friendship, love is fire,
love is comfort, love is sweet, love is pain, love is
knowledge, love is sacred, love is honest, love is trust,
love is storm, love is richness, love is oblivious, love
is depth, love is freedom, love is captivity, love is a
margins, love is a balance, love is water, love is an
ocean, love is a cloud love is an island, love is a
secret, love is a flight, love is an escape, love is a
sail, love is sharing, love is speeding, love is seducing,
love is love and love is everything, love is in my
painting.

The world according to COPLU
My work is a mirror that reflects the feelings, beliefs, fears
and experiences that we all share in life. The subjects of my
paintings are the relationships between ourselves, and the
environments we are connected to. My figures are often on the
edge of contrasting emotions such as hope and despair, joy and
pain, love and hate. Most of our actions and instincts encompass
these kind of contradictions.
Humor and colour are key elements in my paintings. I always look
at the funny side of things, I find it one of the most effective
ways to open minds, connect and raise consciousness. I grew up
surrounded by wide cultural diversities where all feelings and
expressions are represented by colours, and they became very
much part of my life. I combine these creative elements in a
simple, instinctive way so they can strike a chord with anyone.
Biography
Coplu’s journey as an artist began when he was a young child.
His mother, a weaver, taught him about figures, the meanings of
patterns and also the profound, emotional effectiveness of
colour.
His formative years were periods of optimism, although the
challenges and changes in his world gave him the urge to paint,
simply for freedom of expression. His first tool was a carved
stick that he used while he was studying to become a mining
engineer.
My heart could not remain on my studying while my mind was
occupied with political issues. I was witnessing a huge turmoil
in my environment and documenting it through my art. Soon art
became more important to me than the study of rocks and soil.”
Born in the Turkish town of Ushak, Coplu is now based in
Vancouver, Canada. Following his first art exhibition in 1981 he
has become a well-loved and widely collected artist, exhibiting
throughout Europe, North America and Japan. His works have been
published in numerous magazines, newspapers and books across the
world, and are now available in Toronto for the first time at
the Jacob Gallery
