David's brother Abraham Apakark Anghik, creates carvings, prints and drawings.
In 1998 David became the first Inuit artist to be appointed to the prestigious Sculpture Society of Canada

HONOURS, ACHIEVEMENTS and EVENTS:
1975 Received a cultural grant to attend and participate in the International
Stone Sculpture Symposium in Vancouver.
1980 Attended the Third Eskimo Art Conference in Ottawa as guest speaker.
1980 Appointed to the Canadian Eskimo Arts Council and served until 1983.
1982 Travelled to Abidjan, Ivory Coast at the invitation of the Department of
External Affairs to participate in Canada week.


1984 Received a Canada Council Exploration Grant to stage the exhibit:
'Paulatuk - mythology in stone and photographs'.
1986 Carved an Inukshuk to commemorate the first Native Business Summit at the
Toronto Covention Centre, on behalf of the Government of the Northwest
Territories.
1987 Commissioned to produce a folio of prints entitled 'Symbols of Survival'.
1988 Taught carving to six Baffin sculptors at the Third Experimental
Stone Workshop III between February 18 and 26th at the Iqaluit Jewellery
Centre.
1988 Produced a painting as a gift for the United Nations Education, Scientific
and Cultural Organization (Unesco).
1988 One of eleven artists chosen to participate in the 3rd Biennial Native
American Fine Arts Invitational held at the Heard Museum, Phoenix, Arizona
from October 1987 to February 1988.
1989 Invited to participate in the "Partnership Workshops" conducted by
the Institute of Cultural Affairs, Oaxtepec, Morelos, Mexico.
1989 Appointed to UNESCO's Canadian Committee for the World Decade of Cultural
Development.
1989 Attended the opening of the "Masters of the Arctic" exhibition in New York
City on June 5th.
1989 Attended an artists-in-residence program at the Altos de Chavon arts centre
in the Dominican Republic.
1989 Commissioned to create a sculpture for Telefilm Canada headquarters.
1993 Gave a talk at the opening of The Inuit Imagination exhibit at the Winnipeg
Art Gallery (November 7, 1993).
